Sunshine Coast wins bid to host ATEC Symposium


The Sunshine Coast Destination Ltd (SCDL) has won the right to host the 35th Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) Symposium on the Sunshine Coast from 1 -4 May 2012. The announcement came during this year’s ATEC Symposium gala dinner on Hamilton Island.

TEC is the peak body representing a tourism export industry annually worth nearly $25 billion, and the ATEC Symposium is the largest conference on the tourism industry calendar. The Symposium attracts over 500 representatives of the Australian Tourism Export Industry, travel specialists and tourism operators. The four-day Symposium incorporates touring options, an informative business program, as well as destination ‘showcase’ events, including a gala dinner and inbound tour operator pre-and post tour familiarisations throughout the region. 

The direct delegate spend from hosting the ATEC Symposium 2012 is estimated in excess of 

$1million not including pre-and post touring components where business events contribute nearly $60 million each year to the economy. However the largest value comes from the flow on effects, when participants go on to promote and sell Sunshine Coast destination.The Sunshine Coast is a fantastic tourist destination with unparalleled experiences and Symposium 2012 will give the region the opportunity to showcase the best it has to offer.
