A series of free public transport information sessions will start at the end of April to give businesses tools and tips to help visitors and residents get around the Coast. Sunshine Coast Council’s Transport Strategy Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said local businesses, tourism operators and visitor centres including volunteers could benefit from the interactive sessions. A lot of information is available on bus and train times, stops, routes, fares and ticket options - but trying to find it can be quite daunting, especially if it’s on the newer online formats. There are quick and easy ways to access this information and these sessions will show you how, as well as provide tips for giving good directions and handling bus and train enquiries. Tiger Airways Flight TT252 touched down on the Sunshine Coast, beginning a regular  route from Melbourne bringing Victorian visitors to the region over the next 12 months.  Victoria and Melbourne are key interstate markets for the region, with more than 40 percent  of interstate holiday visitors to the Sunshine Coast coming from Victoria, according to the  latest National Visitor Survey. The new Tiger Airways’ flights from Melbourne to Sunshine Coast are perfectly timed to  deliver a boost for the region during key Easter holiday period. Tiger will increase the four weekly flights to daily in June, taking the number of seats into the  region to 1,260 per week and further cementing the airline’s confidence in the Sunshine Coast  as a tourism destination.

Established in 2008 - in partnership with major business, industry and government groups – the Sunshine Coast Business Confidence survey provides accurate and important information about trading conditions on the Coast.  Regularly receiving on average 400 - 500 business participants from across the entire Sunshine Coast region, the survey reports are professionally collated and include expert economic analysis from Suncorp Bank. The survey is conducted bi-annually and participation is anonymous.  The baseline questions have been collaboratively designed by Boardroom Business and the Sunshine Coast Council Economic Development Unit. Additional local bus services will operate on New Year’s Eve to make it easier for people to get around the Coast during this busy time. Sunbus service routes 600, 620, 626 and 627, which operate between Caloundra, Mooloolaba, Maroochydore, Noosa and Tewantin, will run more frequently in the evening on Monday 31 December through to 2am on Tuesday 1 January. New Year’s Eve is a very busy time with local people and visitors enjoying the region’s various events and activities. Passengers  are encouraged to use the extra bus services available to them for an easier and hopefully more relaxing trip than dealing with busy roads and trying to find a car park. These services will also be free of charge for passengers as part of council’s Free Holiday Buses program, which provides free travel on all Coast public buses from Boxing Day to 6 January. The annual Christmas Tree Trail is bigger and better than ever with 32 community trees lighting up across the region. These are not your average Christmas trees – they range size and species – from fabulous figs to pretty paperbarks and each will have a unique set of dazzling decorations. The community is invited to celebrate the launch of the festive season on Wednesday 21 November with the lighting of the region’s signature Christmas Tree on Mooloolaba Esplanade at 7.00 pm. Australian designed environmentally friendly Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting features across council’s decorated trees, in keeping with our vision for the  Coast   to be   Australia ’s most sustainable region – vibrant, green and diverse.
